THAAD Launchers Brought in S. Korea without Notifying New President

By: La Prensa Latina

Seoul, May 30 (Prensa Latina) President of the Republic of Korea, Moon Jae-in, has ordered the investigation of the secret entry and deployment in the country of four new launchers of the THAAD anti-missile defense system, Yonhap news agency reported.

Moon, who took office on May 10, said it was very shocking to know about the deployment of the launching paths without previous information.

Defense Minister Han Min-koo admitted that he had prior knowledge, however, did not communicate it to the new government during the power transfer.

US forces in South Korea did not expressed themselves in this regard.

Both sides deployed the THAAD in April in the Seongju region in the south-east of the country, with only two launching paths, following the military maneuvers of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

During his presidential campaign, Moon called for a parliamentary review of the system, which deployment brought about disagreements and criticism in the Korean peninsula and the region, including China and Russia.
