Podemos Still in Second Place of Spanish Electors’ Preference

By: Prensa Latina
Madrid, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) The anti-austerity party Podemos holds its second place in the preference of Spanish electorate, behind the group that sustains the conservative government of Mariano Rajoy, revealed today a survey.

If general elections were to be held at this moment, the so-called purple formation could conquer the second place with 20.7 percent of support, compared to the 21.1 percent obtained in the elections of June 26, according to a poll of Metroscopia.

Although with eight-tenths of a percent less than the March estimate, the organization led by Pablo Iglesias -at present third force in parliament- again relegates the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) as leader of the opposition.

However, socialists are very close to the second electoral force, at least in the surveys carried out by Metroscopia for daily El Pais, lost in the June elections in favor of Unidos Podemos.

With a support of 20.2 percent, the PSOE is up over one point compared to last month’s survey, but without much to celebrate as it is still under its result of 2016, commented the Madrid daily.

Led since last October by a provisional manager, after the ousting of its Secretary General, Pedro Sanchez, the social democrats are now about five-tenths of Unidos Podemos. Leftwing alliance between Izquierda Unida and Podemos.

The rightist Partido Popular (PP) of Rajoy, reelected for a seconda mandate last October 29, thanks to the polemic abstention of the socialists, are still in the lead with 30.2 percent of vote intention.

If the Spanish were to vote today, the governing party would obtain about three percent points less than the result of 2016 according to the study carried out in March by Metroscopia.

A crisis suffered by the PP in Murcia and the shadow of corruption surrounding the formation lead by Rajoy, are to blame.

As it occurred in preceding studies, Ciudadanos (center right) keeps the fourth place as a parliamentary force with 17.4 percent of preferences, almost one point over than last month.
